I won't give you a room by room tour of the new house, but I will show you some highlights - some of the things I love about our new home.
This is the front...when we bought the house, there were several overgrown evergreens in front of that wall. It created great privacy, but it also made the house look a little creepy and I wanted it to look open and inviting.
This is a side view...behind that half wall is a hot tub.
I'm calling this area my courtyard garden and it's the part I'm concentrating on this season. The yard has so many gardening areas and possibilities and it's easier if I just concentrate on one area at a time. I've trimmed and ripped out several overgrown plants and bushes. I also brought a few favorites from the other house and planted them in here.
When you walk in the front door, you are in a wide, long hallway. My husband gifted me this table for my birthday and it's beautiful in the hallway.
I love all the windows and how much light comes in through them. The blinds are fabric and are super easy to pull down and push up. These particular windows are on the front of the house and face out to my courtyard garden and the street - the area we opened up by cutting down the evergreens.
I don't buy into the idea that you need certain furniture or decorations for certain rooms. I'd rather our home be a reflection of who we are and what interests us. This is one of the main living areas and we are using it for school, as well as a cozy place to read or play some music.
Speaking of music...I have my own violin closet in my bedroom It has space for me to keep my instruments, all my music and a music stand for practicing. In the last house I would often carry my violin and stand up to my bedroom so I could practice behind closed doors...now I have it all set up that way!
The kitchen....I love that it's a very similar layout to my last kitchen - only bigger. But it's not too big. It just feels nice to have 3 or 4 people working comfortably in the space. I'm still trying to get used to this farmhouse sink. I do miss having a sink with a divider in the middle, but this is a gorgeous feature so I'm learning to love it.
And my favorite feature....this spacious dining room! In the last house we used the dining room space for our home office and school room. There was a breakfast nook that we used for our dining room, but space was extremely limited. This dining room is actually too big, but it feels wonderful to have so much space. And I love the light we bought in Bend last month.
And finally, I love the rock wall (and trees) on the back of our property. So beautiful and provides so much privacy.
Oh I love it!! Feels so "Oregon" to me!!
ReplyDeleteDo you know where that gorgeous table is from?? I am dying for one like it!
believe it or not, he got it at Fred Meyer!
DeleteIt's lovely. Thanks for sharing it. It's fun to be able to "see" bloggers at home when reading blogs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour--it's lovely! I love the courtyard, and it looks like the fireplace and kitchen have been nicely updated. You've already done so much with the bedroom painted and the front plants removed--it's great that simple changes can make a huge difference! I'm so happy for your family.
ReplyDeleteWe repainted the entire house and all the trim...it was painted with a very warm color scheme and we wanted to cool things down a bit!
DeleteI like homes with lots of natural lighting. And your front courtyard, ooh la la.
ReplyDeleteLast night I was looking around our living room and thinking it looks lived in and wondered if I ought to make it more conventional. But, I know that's not going to happen. So I was very glad to read your comment about your living room. Cheers to you and your new home!
Congratulations on the new home. It looks lovely.
