Minimalist Window Treatments

This is the first home I've lived in that I didn't "decorate" the windows with curtains. When we bought the house last fall, I took down the remaining curtains and decided to live without for a while and see how it felt.

Guess what? I love it. I love that our house has maximum natural light because the windows are free of material.

I'm sure some come into our home and think the lack of curtains feels cold - I think it makes it feel clean and stream-lined.

What do you think?

  1. I love the light and openness. I tend to like the way that fabrics soften a room so we have curtains but I like fairly unstructured, simple ones, often from Ikea.

  2. I love it. I also love the fact that all windows are identical and white. It creates unity and ties in with your decor.
Thanks for posting your pictures. A photo says it all.

  3. I love it! I was thinking about something like this for our new place. I don't think it is cold at all.

  4. My husband would die of happiness, he hates curtains... Maybe if he put molding around the windows (like yours) I wouldn't miss the curtains so much? Hmm... sounds like a good bribe- er, I mean- compromise ;)

  7. hi jill..
i see you a lot on minimalist packrat.
i love your house. it has a very shaker feel to it and i don't think i've ever heard them described as cold... mostly just "beautiful" "spare" and "elegant."
    bravo to you!

  8. We can't do without our curtains. We live in South Florida with wall to wall windows that go all the way up to the ceiling, and face east and west. If we had no curtains we could literally bake for most of the year. We also like our privacy at night, since we are on a second floor. But it looks like it's working out great for you.

  10. No curtains here. When we moved in the house had heavy custom drapes with lots of geegaws and huge headers. Ugh. Now they are all gone and it looks so much better. White (faux) wood blinds only.
