Colors of Autumn - Gold

Seven years ago we moved to the Pacific Northwest from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We've also lived in Vermont and Virginia, all places known for their beautiful autumn colors. The first couple of years here I was disappointed and missed the beauty of fall. Three years ago we returned to Vermont during October. I tried to soak up the colors and fill my tank with autumn beauty, and when we got home it was like my eyes were opened to the beauty that happens right here in the Pacific Northwest. It is different here, but it's here and it's beautiful. We don't have rolling hills and mountains that "peak" creating a blanket of red and orange over the landscape.

But we do have waves of change and pops of color. I've learned which trees turn in the early wave, where to look for dropped pinecones and chestnuts and which trees really "pop" with color. I feel like I've learned to track autumn and I love that it doesn't happen all at once.

This week I went out searching for the color gold and found it in my backyard and neighborhood park.
