Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread - Proverbs 30:8

4th of July

taking a moment to find joy in the little things

{pretty}

We had a lovely, quiet Independence Day celebration. After our girls being gone for a week at camp, it was nice to be a family again...even though we spent a good part of the day doing our own things, we were all under the same roof and that was quite comforting.

{happy}
We haven't gone to a "real" fireworks show in years...partly because of crowds, but also because we all like to sleep. However, our neighbors like to shoot fireworks all around the lake we live by so we sit out by the lake for a few minutes to enjoy the little show. Then we go home and grumble about how loud it is.  And we always do sparklers (so mom can take cool pics).

This sign made me laugh!

and some of these pics where my subjects just couldn't and wouldn't stand still are funny

HAMILTON!!!!

I've heard about this here and there - people talking, friends obsessing - and finally decided to give it a listen. Oh my word...it's amazing. And the more I listen and learn, the more I love it. I even got my husband to listen to it while we drove to pick up the girls last weekend...I was worried because he's not a fan of musicals or hip-hop, but he liked it. We weren't able to listen to it all, but he said he wants to finish it sometime. So far we've not allowed the girls to listen as the lyrics are a bit explicit at times.

I was happy to find a podcast that discusses each song in detail and I'm learning so much more about the genius of this musical. If you are an Amazon Prime member, you can download the soundtrack free through Prime music, and I love that you can watch the lyrics as you listen. Currently I listen to a podcast, then listen carefully to the songs that were discussed in the podcast.

I'd love to know if you are a Hamilton fan, and if you haven't yet heard it, I highly recommend you find time to listen to it.

  1. Lol at the sign...that's pretty funny. Sadly my kids have never had the pleasure of sparklers. Living here in dry CA...it's a total fire hazard. love the light paining though. visiting from Kim's.

  2. HAMILTON!!!!!!! I am SO obsessed. I listen to it on shuffle which gives me new appreciation and understanding of the story. I recommend the Hamiltome book - explains how Lin-Manuel wrote it all (the story behind Quiet Uptown is just so heartbreaking and amazing).

    1. Have you listened to it chronologically? I have requested the book from the library, but there is a long waiting list.

      When I first understood the context of Quiet Uptown and heard it in context, I had just learned of a friend who lost her 13 year old son in a tragic accident....made it even more heartbreaking.
