Ducks, Ladybugs and Slugs

taking a moment to find joy in the little things

{pretty}

{happy}

We were so happy to see a family of ducklings in our pond this past week. We've seen them several times now, and even fed them in hopes that they stick around.

a nice May Day surprise by our front door

{funny}
We were out for a family walk and somehow started pointing out the different statues and lawn ornaments in our neighborhood. My husband kept talking about the legless deer head and we all started laughing so hard when we finally spotted it.

{real}
Last week I talked about the aphid infestation I was having. After trying an organic spray that did not work, my daughter begged me to buy more live ladybugs and so we did. They have worked wonders and eaten most of the aphids.

Now I just have to figure out what to do about the slugs...

3 on one flower!

  4. The ducklings are so so cute! Feel your pain on the slugs. I just sprinkled something to deal with them around the garden last week.

  5. I don't know what your sensibilities are, but when we lived in Mount Vernon, WA, I would put on rubber gloves and gather up all the slugs I could find into a big brown grocery bag, then salt them heavily and toss the whole thing in the trash. In the war to save my flowers the slugs were the casualties. I apologize if my methods offend, I'm usually a live and let live outdoors kind of person, but those buggers were treating my flower garden like their own salad bar! I needed and wanted colors to happy the place up!

    1. I have no warm feelings towards slugs so I'll give your method a try. Right now I usually just fling them over the fence, but I'm sure they eventually make their way back into my garden.
