Good, Random, Fun ~ Week 3

the GOOD
In 2016 I'm attempting to do #52weeksofstorytelling with a different theme each week.
Week 2/52 - Simple
I've been fighting for a simple life for the past decade. It means saying no to things that don't add value to our lives, but it also means we have more time to pursue meaningful, family ventures. We homeschool so we can have more time together as a family, and build the family culture we want to have. We spend our weekends in the woods and forests - not at marathon sports tournaments. Every night we eat dinner as a family because none of us have to rush off to one of several evening activities. This is a life worth fighting for.

A big motivator for living more simply is then having the ability to share our wealth with those living in poverty. Let's face it...if you live in the first world, you are wealthy. Our girls have grown up with "brothers and sisters" all over the world - kids we sponsor through Compassion International. We've done our best to give them a global view of the world, and have even traveled to Thailand as a family and seen poverty first hand. Over the weekend, we were able to visit the Compassion Experience - a mobile exhibit that travels our country to give visitors and idea of how some children live and what sponsorship can do. I'm so grateful it finally came close enough for us to go.

the RANDOM
January can be such a blah month - we don't get snow here, just rain, and it can be hard. But I'm a believer that if you search for beauty, you'll find it. I'm forcing myself to go for walks (even in the rain) and collect beauty. Here's what I found this week.

    1. That's so exciting - when are you going? I've been thinking about Nicaragua a lot lately. It was about a year ago that I went. I'd like to go again soon.

    1. Thank you! I live in the Pacific Northwest so we get a lot of rain, but it's pretty mild in the winter, and we get breaks in the rain so it's not too bad.

  5. Yes, it is important to consciously create the life one wants. It is not what one sees but how one sees one's surroundings. We live in country where there is a massive chasm between the middle-class + poor. I have tried to make my girls aware of the world we live in from a v young age.

  6. I so applaud you for the decision to home school. Although it's not the right choice for everyone, I've always admired those who make it work. I absolutely love the shot of the light streaming through the trees! #LTTL
