The Art of Adoration

A couple months ago my friend, Aly, introduced me to the everybitterthingissweet account on instagram. I took a look around to see what it was about, and realized that every day a new adoration post goes up.

What's an adoration post? I'm so glad you asked.

Each day a new scripture verse is turned into a praise or adoration - a simple statement saying who or what God is based on the verse. (You can see some examples above). What a beautiful way to begin to understand the character of God.

You are the one whose love washed their feet (John 13:5)
You are the one with riches unsearchable (Epehsians 3:8)
You are my banner (Exodus 17:15)
You are the God who seeks and saves me (Luke 19:10)
You are the God who cleans me (Psalm 51:10)

and so on and so forth....

About the same time I was introduced to this beautiful ig account, I was teaching my girls what it means to praise God. I know now that the act of praise and adoration was largely missing from my life and I'm so glad for this simple, yet profound way to cultivate it.

If you have access to ig, I highly recommend you follow @everybitterthingissweet for these daily adoration posts and begin to cultivate the art of adoration in your own life. She has a blog, too, where you can see the daily adoration post from instagram (HERE).

I am honored to have my own photography featured with these beautiful words the whole month of July. Now when I look at Mt. Hood in real life, I'll think "You are the one who restores my song!" Or when I look at the flowering chives I can remember that "God is the one who makes the waiting worth it."

Do you practice the art of adoration?

  3. I like praying using the acronym ACTS. Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication. I always find that the tone is much different during my prayer time if I begin it focused on who God is and adoring Him for it!

Random Question : In a previous post (like a long time ago, I often read in your archives) you talked about a book that talks about the importance of keeping kids connected to nature. Does this ring a bell? I'd love to read it this summer but can't find the post. :)

    1. Yes...the ACTS method is something I have used with my daughters. I have also used the "5 fingers" - each finger representing a specific way to pray - praise, thanksgiving, supplication, pray for someone else, pray for yourself.

I'm not sure which post you are referring to....I've looked and can't seem to find anything either. But one book I remember reading and probably would have recommended is "Last Child in the Woods" by Richard Louv

    2. Yes, that is the book I was thinking of! Thank you! Also thanks for the five finger prayer idea, that would be easy to do with my young boys.
