Motherhood

It's hard to believe I celebrated my 10th Mother's Day yesterday. In some ways it seems like it was just last year that I was barely pregnant and completely unaware how much this new title would change me. But it was 10 years ago.

And now I'm mama to two beautiful, special girls who aren't so little anymore.

I remember holding my newborn daughter and feeling like I was finally getting a glimpse into Christ's love for us. It was overwhelming to think that I would give my life to protect this tiny little baby - this person I didn't even know yet. But I would do anything - ANYTHING - for her.

Being a mother has taught me so many things about God - how He loves us, how He longs to be in relationship with us, how He cares for us, how He provides for us, how He puts up with us, how He delights in us, how He truly knows what's best for us, how He wants joyful obedience from us....

Being a mother has also (hopefully) made me a better person - a better sister, a better daughter, a better wife, a better child of God, a better advocate, a better student and a better teacher.

Being a mother is the most demanding, yet rewarding role I've ever had. As I look at my girls I am amazed and grateful that God chose me to be their mother.

  1. Being a mother also taught me how God gave us everything we needed plus free will then set us loose to do whatever we choose. You have not reached the letting go and sitting back and watching stage but it is coming. And it will last the rest of your life. I can assure you this is true since my daughter is older than you are and I'm still watching--sometimes while holding my breath.

    1. yes...I know my mom must shake her head at some of my decisions : )

I think this is the part of motherhood I'm least looking forward to - the letting go and having no more control. I really like having control...
