I'm embarrassed to say that I think I mis-read the translation. I can't even find it now, but I am finding hurries and I found one version that uses panting....I must have thought it said painting. Sunsets do seem to "paint" the sky so it seemed fitting to me.
I'll be correcting it (even though I like the imagery of painting).
