Making the Most of it....

This weekend we were thrown some crazy weather - weather we are not prepared to handle in these parts. I know many of you in other parts of the US have had brutal winter weather for weeks, so it only seems fair for us to get a little.

The thing is...we just aren't prepared to deal with snow or ice. So this means the majority of life here in the pacific northwest came to a complete stop.

For me this meant not being able to attend the conference I've been helping plan for more than 6 months. (Hopefully the event will be rescheduled soon...).

So what was going to be an extremely busy weekend, turned out to be an unexpected break. A mini-vacation right here in my own home. This is very good.

I don't know how well you know me or my family, but we aren't very good about staying put. (Three of us are a little more keen on hanging around the house, but one of us just needs to be out doing something.) Since we couldn't really drive anywhere because of the ice, we strapped on crampons and headed out for a hike. It was fun to be out and about in the icy, winter wonderland.

On our way we randomly decided to meet friends at a local brewery (it's also an inn so the restaurant was open despite the inclement weather).

See, you aren't really snowed in or iced in unless you choose to stay at home. We chose to make the most of it and get out there.

If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. If the sky gives you ice, find your crampons and marvel at the beauty. And be sure to take your camera along to capture it all!

  1. Wow! That's some ice! We are used to that kind of weather here in Pennsylvania, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with. Icy conditions bring everything to a halt. Glad you made the best of it!

  2. Wow, I hope the warm get back soon! But that's the best way to deal with the cold weather, making the best of it, so happy for you and your family!

  3. My sister and her family live in Portland - they've been snowed in for days - ice is of course a whole other matter, but that much snow would be no issue here in Boston!

  4. Can you believe I'd never seen or heard of crampons in my life? And I live in Atlantic Canada, where we tend to have plenty of snow and ice. But we do not have mountains. That must be why... :)
