I've never put much stock in decorating the girls' room, always trying to use what we have. Plus, I'm not much of a decorator. I lack the decorating gene or magic touch.
BEFORE
Here's what it looked like, and what prompted my desire to bring some uniformity into this space. It's a small room and the girls prefer not to have their beds bunked right now.
DURING
My first trip to IKEA resulted in matching bedspreads and pillow cases. It was a start, but not enough. I knew I needed to cover up the closet somehow (I had taken the doors off to allow more room for the beds).
I also tried to unify the shelves with matching boxes (which we already had) that would hide and contain the girls' treasures better.
I also tried to unify the shelves with matching boxes (which we already had) that would hide and contain the girls' treasures better.
But it still wasn't what I had in mind. So the girls and I made another trip to IKEA. I know I wanted curtains to hang in front of the closet. I also knew I wanted to buy the boxes that fit the Expedit shelf.
AFTER
I was excited to find the polka-dot material that I could hang behind each bed. I think it adds so much.
And without realizing it or intending to, I managed to match the ugly blinds that came with the house when we bought it. Now they look great!
I can hardly believe it's the same room with all the same contents. A little uniformity goes a long way!
I know have a re-decorated room isn't all that important in the scheme of things...it's just fluff...but I really do like it and my skin doesn't crawl when I walk into the girls' room every day like it used to. I don't feel like I'm being attacked by clutter.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove it. It's amazing how much using bins for the small toys does!
