{p,h,f,r} and Life Through the Lens

taking a moment to capture contentment and joy in every day life

{pretty}
We were blessed beyond measure to be able to spend a weekend away - hiking and enjoying God's beautiful creation.

{happy}
This girl has made another breakthrough in reading...she's discovered the joy of a good story.
She can hardly put her books down and I find her grabbing them in every spare moment.

{funny}
My other reader continues to find interesting ways and places to sit while she's engrossed in a book.

My girls are little entrepreneurialists. (I'm not sure that's even a word or if I'm close to the spelling, but you know what I mean). Their home store called Designo has re-opened and is featuring original drawings, rocks, craft projects and cast-off toys. You know location is everything so they have set this up in the corner of our front room - visible to all who enter our front door. It's the room where we have school and where I teach violin. Whenever they set this up, I wonder who they think will come to buy things. But then I realized they fully expect my violin students to be their customers. : ) I need a couple drawings to send to my grandma this week, so maybe I'll go shopping at Designo.

I love where I live, I do. We've been here four years now and it's a gorgeous area. Part of the reason it's so gorgeous is that it's a tiny little strip of the North American rainforest. Which means rain. Lots of rain. Summer is gorgeous and dry - almost too dry. And early fall is usually an extension of summer. But not this year. Apparently someone told the Pacific Northwest that fall begins on Sept 21 and it's been raining ever since. I'm not complaining...I know rain is common where we live but I'd appreciate a little more than a 3 month break from it. It rains the good part of November, December, January, February, March, April and May. Even June is iffy. At least we have a break today.

  1. Germany was much like the P. Northwest, rain, rain, and more rain. Since moving, I have found that I miss the rain terribly. I never thought I would say that. Your vacation looks dreamy, I miss the mountains as well. My favorite shot of this lot is the close-up on the flowers... I think it is the contrast in colors that draws in me. But your photography, as usual, is beautiful!

    1. Thank you! I miss the rain a lot in the summer, but I really just wish it would rain at night to water the earth and then be nice during the day!

      I really like the flower shot, too. I took it because originally we were going to go from yellow to purple in our photo treasure hunt theme and I thought it would make a good transition photo. But then we switched to red...

  2. You should be a postcard photographer. Is that a legit profession? So gorgeous.
    I wish I could shop at Designo! I also wish my boys loved to draw and color as much as your girls!

  3. oh boy. This blog post. It filled me with wonder and beauty and joy and awe. Man can you take a MEAN picture! Phew. Like take my breathe away great. I felt almost like I was THERE.

    I, of course, loved seeing your little readers too. My eldest girl is just that way- the second is right on the cusp of finding the 'story' behind the words. Soon. This will be the year. Very exciting.

    1. Thank you...your words are encouraging! I love creating with my camera and capturing the beauty around me. I read somewhere that you don't take photos - you make them. I don't do any editing beyond cropping - mostly because I don't want to spend the time - but also as a challenge to do my best when capturing the image. It helps that I have a really nice camera...
