Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread - Proverbs 30:8

Sponsorship Works

Want to change the world? Sponsor a child.

Seriously.

It works.

I know because I've seen it. I've been sponsoring children through Compassion International since 1994 - 19 years!

I've seen the kids I've sponsored for more than 10 years graduate and get jobs. I've met Compassion graduates who have successfully earned college degrees and risen above their hopeless circumstances. I've seen it with my own eyes in Peru, and through my husband's eyes in Nicaragua.

But I also know it works because there is new research data that shows, sponsoring a child makes a significant difference and impact. I'm not going to summarize the data here - you can click on that link to read the highlights yourself. I want to keep this short and sweet.

I believe so strongly in child sponsorship. My family has embraced the ministry of Compassion International as our family ministry. As God uses the ministry of Compassion to release children from poverty in Jesus' name, he also has used this opportunity to release us from our wealth.

I believe that our sponsorship is playing a role in our carrying out the Great Commission.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. ~ Matthew 18:19

I believe that our sponsorship is playing a role in God's command to love your neighbor as yourself.
"'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." ~ Matthew 22:37-40

I love what Richard Stearns, CEO of World Vision, says in his new book Unfinished
"God's deepest desire is not that we would help the poor. God's deepest desires is that we would love the poor; for if we love them, we will surely help them."
So if you want to do something that makes a difference today - if you want to leave a legacy and change the world - sponsor a child!

The following children have birthdays coming up and are in need of a sponsor. If you are interested in sponsoring one of these children, simply leave a comment or email me at fiddlejill(at)yahoo(dot)com.

"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." ~ Matthew 25:40

  1. Thanks Jill for this wonderful and touching post. This is something I've been thinking of doing for quite some time and will look into Compassion International. A good friend of mine also sponsors a child in Africa and she is always so inspired by how that young person is doing.

Thanks for spreading the word and for doing what you do.

ps: I am a new reader but will no longer be a stranger :)

    1. Thanks for your comment, Lyle. If I can answer any questions you might have about sponsorship, feel free to ask. There is a Compassion blogger trip going to Nicaragua next week that might interest you. For the past couple years, they take a group of well-known bloggers to see the ministry of Compassion. The bloggers ask questions and then are free to write whatever they want about what they see each day. Here's a link to the home page for the blogging team. http://compassionbloggers.com/trips/nicaragua-2013/
