Being Intentional ~ Social Media

I've never been on Facebook.

I don't "tweet".

And until recently I didn't "pin".

Years ago my husband and I agreed that Facebook didn't need to become part of our lives. I'm so glad we made this decision together and have honored one another's wishes to remain on the outside of the Facebook world.

Do I think Facebook is wrong? No.

Do I think Facebook is wrong for me? Yes. I know I would become way too obsessed keeping up with every one else's business. Every once in a while I have access to Facebook through my mom's account, and even this little glimpse of what Facebook life is like is enough to keep me away.

But I'm not completely living life free of social media. After all I do blog. And I have more than one blog.

I've also joined Pinterest and Instagram - both of which I find quite fun. I've found Pinterest to be quite useful in finding new recipes, garden ideas and homeschooling inspiration.

And Instagram - it satisfies a love of photography in a new and different way.

What else? Oh yes....Goodreads. I really like using Goodreads to keep track of what I'm reading and what I want to read. It beats the scraps of paper I used to carry around with lists of books written on them!

This is the balance that seems to work for me. What works for you?

  1. Jill, I love this post! So true... social media can eat up huge chunks of time. It takes real discipline to be on it. Sometimes, I find myself getting "lost" in it and it's not good.

I'm on FB & Twitter & Instagram, plus blogging. I find that's more than enough for me. I've been tempted to wade into Pinterest, but I stopped myself. :-)

    1. Pinterest can be a bit addictive at first, but then when you learn to use it as a tool to find inspiration, it's fun.

  2. Facebook is hard for me. I've been trying to go on only when the kids are sleeping during Lent otherwise I get too pulled in. At the same time there are a ton of blessings that come from it and it's the only way I have to connect with some people. I have a Twitter account but don't use it...not a big fan. I used to be very suspicious of Pinterest but when you figure out how to use it as a tool for your own needs, it is really helpful! Haven't gotten into Instagram at all probably because I'm not a great photographer :)

    1. I agree with you about learning to use Pinterest as a tool. I try to only pin things I will actually use as an idea or inspiration.
