Waiting

I'm waiting.

What am I waiting for?

I'm waiting for many things.

I'm waiting for my father to come back home. He had to leave. Mother says he went to look for work.

I'm waiting for rain so our crops will grow.

I'm waiting for food to eat. We have a little bit, but not enough to eat more than once a day.

I'm waiting for school. Most days I get to go, but some days I have to stay home and watch my brothers and sisters while my mother goes to earn money.

I'm waiting for a sponsor. I've been waiting a long time for this one ~ 392 days. Most of my friends at the Compassion child development center have sponsors. It's exciting to see how happy they are when they get letters from their sponsors. But it can be sad, too. Some of them never get letters, and although they do have a sponsor, they are no different than me.

I wonder what it will be like when I finally get a sponsor.

Will I still be waiting? Waiting for them to love me?

**********************************************************************

Although the above account is fictional, the girl in the photo is real. Yuliana is a beautiful, 10 year old girl who lives in Colombia. It's true that she is waiting for a sponsor. It's even true that she has been waiting 392 days.

There are many, many children who are waiting for a sponsor. And some have been waiting longer than others. Some have been waiting as long as 422 days. To a child, a wait this long seems like forever. To a child, having to wait this long sends a really strong message.

It's true that there will always be children waiting for a sponsor. But no child should have to wait for more than a year. Can you end the wait for at least one child today? And if you do, make sure you don't keep them waiting when it comes to receiving letters from you . Letters are tangible proof that they are loved, respected and cherished. Every child deserves to be loved by another human being.

If you want to sponsor Yuliana, simply click HERE. If you want to see all the children who have been waiting, click HERE. To learn more about Compassion International and their ministry, visit their website.

If you end the wait for a child today, would you please kindly leave me a comment?

  1. Amazing post Jill! I can't imagine what these children feel that have been waiting for so long. It is so hard not to sponsor more, but I know the right people are out there to sponsor these kids!

  2. Thank you so much writing this post and giving us more information, Jill. I had not heard about the Compassion group...because of your post now a little girl in Kenya named Purity has to wait no longer. :) I can't wait to get her packet so I can write her, encourage her, and love up on her! I might follow your lead and write a post on my blog much like yours to spread the word. Thanks again!
