Getting Serious ~ The Closet

I'm tired of decluttering. I've been doing it for many years now, and I continue to make progress, but I can't seem to reach the level of minimalism that feels right for me. I continue to feel overwhelmed by how much stuff we have.

Today I made a decision.

After realizing that I have extra time on my hands right now (no formal schooling going on this summer for us), I decided it was time to get serious.

I started in my closet. A couple months ago we rearranged closets and I lost my beloved family closet. Instead, I moved my own clothes into what I like to call my tiny closet.

I was proud of myself for getting everything in there. But it still felt cramped.

So today I took a good amount out and am very pleased with the results. I'm not one for counting items and have never successfully participated in Project 333 (it feels too limiting to me), but I did move more than 25 items out of here.

I also used only white hangars and think that makes a big difference in how it looks.

My goal is to post many before and after photos this summer - documenting my progress. You might not really care, but it's a certain sort of accountability for me. And who knows, maybe someone out there will be inspired.

Have you done any decluttering lately?

  1. Currently, I'm on vacation. But when I get back--boy, howdy! I'm really going to hit the house with serious delcuttering! Posting your progress will help me with mine.

  2. I cleaned out my closet a couple months ago and it is amazing how many items I actually own. I completely agree on the whole white hanger thing. Makes a huge difference.

  3. I feel like I have been decluttering forever too! I still have boxes in the garage from when we moved into the house 4 years ago (in my defense, I was 5 months pregnant at the time...) but only now am I starting to dig in to them. There are some gems that I want to save and put away but a whole lot of stuff I am going to be taking to Salvation Army. I still feel lighter with every load that goes and I have a bit of a break for the next few weeks and need to get serious during this time as well. Can't wait to see more of your before and after pics!
