Flat Surfaces

I've been thinking a lot about flat surfaces lately. Mostly about how I can't seem to keep them clear of clutter. And if I do manage, someone else walks by and sets something down in the clear spot.

Some of the clutter is just the result of day to day living, homeschooling and letting my children create.

But other times the clutter is there because I'm lazy. If everything in my home truly had a place and everything was regularly in it's place, I wouldn't have this problem. But I can't seem to stay on top of it. Something needs to change, and I'm pretty sure it's me.

I don't mind the responsibility. I see the home as my domain. I am the queen of this castle. Yes, there are three other family members who live here, but being a homemaker is my job ~ one I've chosen and gladly accept responsibility for.

And if I can set a tone for the house with my own actions ~ an expectation ~ then maybe others will follow suit. Maybe not.

But honestly, when I look in all these photos, the majority of the problem is mine.

So this is my new area of focus ~ flat surfaces. And not just countertops, but floors, beds and tables too. I do pretty good with the bed and dining room table.

In fact, I think I'll start with floors. I've gotten into the habit of filling the empty spaces underneath pieces of furniture. I think it's time to clear some clutter!

  1. Oooh, I love a cleared flat surface!

I too battle with the clutter since having a family. But now I am a full time homemaker it is easier to deal with on a daily basis.

I have found that it helps to think of flat surfaces like kitchen table and bench tops as work spaces, not storage spaces , so any stuff is temporary and is put away when not being worked on....
