We had lofty goals of saving this year and although we have been saving each month, are no where near our goal for 2011.
We do try to pay cash for most of our purchases, but it's all too easy to swipe that credit card when you haven't made it to the bank. Thankfully, we are able to pay off our credit card bills each month, but doing so has made it more difficult to save as much as we'd hoped.
And so, we've decided to fast from credit cards this month. As soon as we made this decision, expenses and possible purchases began to pop up. Hubby could use some new pants for work as he's recently lost weight, my running shoes are looking shabby, car insurance is due, car registrations need to be renewed....the list goes on and on.
All the more reason to be more mindful of how we spend our money this month.
We'll do our best to eat at home and make do with what we have. I'm also hoping to use this opportunity to do another round of Minimalist Packrat's 30 day Boot Camp. Even if I can get rid of one thing in each category it will be a success. Won't it be wonderful if there is only outgoing traffic in my house this month?!
Have you ever tried a "no spend month"?
Right now we're on a 'watch what we spend month'. Several years ago, we spent several months writing down everything we spent and tracking our money. It was a great learning experience.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to Shaun's music! I loved 'Enough'.
Although I think I had my blog title before Shaun wrote the song "Enough", I like to think he wrote me a theme song : )
