Family Day

Last week my husband was in Honduras, on a medical mission trip, and the girls and I were home alone. We were very much looking forward to having him home again, and were able to enjoy a wonderful day as a family today - out in nature.

We had a nice hike with breathtaking views of Mt. Hood

and the Columbia River.

We saw beautiful wildflowers and rock formations

and got up close and personal with some wildlife.

(we didn't get too close to this guy - he was right off the trail, just outside the bathroom! As he tried to escape, he trapped himself and he rattled quite furiously at us)

It was a fun family day. My girls called it the "best day ever".

What did you do this weekend?

  1. I am developing an increasing fear of snakes in my grown up life. Maybe because we live in the area of the states with the highest concentration of them. :(

  2. I've always had a fear of them - I honestly would have to think really hard about living in the state you live in! We've moved a lot, and when a new move looks possible, one of the first things I research is snakes for that area (along with frequency of thunderstorms - another fear).

There aren't rattlesnakes where we live - but an hour or so east is the desert and they are there. I freak out much of the time we are hiking in that area - mostly because of what a bite would mean to my kids.

This snake we saw yesterday had no interest in striking us - unless we got too close.

  3. Is that a wild peacock? We have some wild ones here and they have let me get really close, I've never thought to feed them. Hmm... that might be fun to do with Oliver when he's a little (ok, a lot!) older.

Such a fun day and a good welcome home too!
