Surprises

I've been pleasantly surprised during this process of going through 30 Day Clutter Bootcamp. If you are at all interested in this book, GET IT NOW....On February 1st, the price goes up. The book is full of so many wonderful ideas, tips, stories, encouragment...the list goes on and on.

Now on to my surprises....

I have been surprised at my willingness and desire to revisit almost every area I have already decluttered and find even more stuff to let go of. For example, I went back to my collection of classical music...I had one full box of cds that belonged only to me. I decided to buy a media book and put all those cds in it. Not only does this consolidate and save more space, it allows me to store them next to the stereo - not in the closet upstairs. As I went through the collection, I minimized it even more, keeping only the ones I truly loved.

My efforts seem to be rubbing off on my husband. Although I hoped this would happen, this was not my motivation. In fact, I'm doing all this decluttering secretly. I wanted to see if anyone would notice (particularly him). I also don't want to nag him to get rid of his stuff anymore. I don't know if he really has noticed, but yesterday I came home to find 10 items from his closet sitting on our bed. When I asked what the pile was for, he told me they are things he doesn't need or want anymore!

I'm also noticing new forms of clutter. Yesterday I realized I have "hangar clutter"

  2. I have hanger clutter now too after decluttering my closet. I wish my hubby would declutter his clothes. He's always had more clothes than me, but since I've decluttered my clothes yet again, he has about 5x what I have. And it's not like he's a business man with suits, he trains horses!! But he has shirts from when we got married (almost 19 yrs ago!!) that he doesn't wear & won't get rid of. He gets it honestly though, his parents won't get rid of anything. Neither do mine, but as I'm the one cleaning house, I'm tired of dealing with the mess so I decided to change!!

  3. Hi Jill,

Thanks for the kind words again and the prop. I've been debating keeping it at $14.99 but we'll see. So maaaybe it won't go up February 1st.

How exciting about your husband. I know you've been wanting him to get on board with your decluttering and you've been doing great at not pushing him. Leading by example always seems to be a more positive effect. Wow. 10 things out of his closet. You must be doing the happy dance!

And yes, hanger clutter happens. You may run into storage bin clutter at some point too. I was soooo excited when I got to the point where plastic storage tubs were getting emptied and I couldn't come up with a use for them! Off to the thrift shop. Yay!

  4. I do have 3 empty storage bins and quite a few baskets I don't know what to do with! It's such a great feeling.
