Minimizing Our Schedule

In addition to de-cluttering our stuff, I am attempting to de-clutter our calendar.

We homeschool and I am grabbing on to the word home. I don't want to be the homeschool family that is never home. Part of why I have chosen to homeschool is to keep my children home with me. We could get super busy, super fast if we aren't intentional about saying no. I am learning to say no, even to good things.

For example, this month, a nearby library is hosting Symphony story time. It's a good thing - something I have interest in and want to expose my children to more. However, it's not a must thing. We went to a kinderconzert (yes, that's how they spell it) on Monday, and it was much more age-appropriate and enjoyable for my girls. And so I will make kinderconzerts a priority and skip Symphony story time.

I am also trying to be very intentional about running errands one day a week. Yesterday was that day for us. It feels so nice to have them all done and know the rest of the week is ours to learn and enjoy.

We spend so much time away from home on the weekends, while we are off on our hiking or camping adventures, so it's nice to stay home during the week. It's much more restful.

What are your thoughts?

  1. I know that this is something that I need to work on. I don't seem to know how to just be home if that makes sense. While I am off on mat leave, it isn't too bad but once I go back, there is no way we will be able to continue a lot of the things we are doing now. It does tend to really clutter life!

  2. Agreed. On all accounts. Intentional about errands, activities and saying no to good things. And I hear you about weekends. My monday's are a day off and I stay home just to recover from the activity of the weekend.

  3. Yes, I have had to become very intentional about staying home, scheduling fewer playdates, and just not attending all the wonderful events and classes offered in our area. We are lucky to have so many choices, but it is so important not to fill up all of our time!!!
