Independence Day

Our holiday was pretty quiet. In the past we have hosted 4th of July parties, but this year we were invited to a friend's house and went there instead. After being sick for a week, it was nice to not have to host a big gathering.

Once again we decided not to attend a large fireworks display, and instead just enjoyed the ones our neighbors put off. Several neighbors do this, and they all do it separately, so you find yourself just looking this way and that and catching the random display. This year, we climbed up and sat on our roof to view them.

I find photographing fireworks to be a fun challenge. I prefer to set my shutter at a very low speed so I can get images like the ones below. They remind me a bit of Chihuly's glass works that we saw a few weeks ago.
