Winter Weather

We had some more harsh, winter weather this past week. We got home from our vacation in a winter wonderland just in time for another severe ice storm.

We were iced in for a full two days before it melted. When it melted, it did so quickly and we were able to get out and about for about a day before the snow storm started.

I know snow isn't all that unusual in terms of winter weather, but it really doesn't snow much here in the Pacific Northwest. And if it does snow, it usually melts within a day or two. Not this time. The snow started Tuesday afternoon and lasted for more than 12 hours. Since then the temperatures have not gone above 32 degrees so there has been zero melting.

Thankfully I don't mind being confined to my home for long periods of time. In fact, I had a meeting that did not get canceled this weekend and I was a bit put out that I had to actually go somewhere.

The best thing about all the snow...more opportunities for photographing snowflakes.

And here's a behind the scenes look at one of my snowflake photo shoots.

  1. I cannot get over how snowed in you guys are! My poor east coast raised sister is so frustrated with the lack of removal! They shoveled out their driveway yesterday and the neighbors all started on the untouched street!

  2. Simple beauty - The pine branch and pine cone photo.

  3. The snowflakes are gorgeous Jill! We're having temps between 36- and 29 degr. F. but only snow higher than we are at (3000 feet). We live only about half an hour (with chains) from a ski resort. Love also your 4th capture with the ice - many thanks for sharing the winter fun with ALL SEASONS! Have a beautiful week!

  5. Sometimes, I think the beauty we find in snow and ice is to make up for the cold :) You photos are just awesome. I love the fence drenched in ice and the snowflakes are amazing.

  7. I think you are the current Snowflake Bentley! All your photographs are striking. My favorite is the snowy branch with the pine cone.
The temps today have finally melted all our snow and ice that we've had in our little end of the PNW.
