Good, Random, Fun ~ Week 16

the GOOD
In 2016 I'm attempting to do #52weeksofstorytelling with a different theme each week.
Week 15/52 - Frustration

Clutter in my own house frustrates me to no end. I'm a minimalist, but the rest of the family doesn't necessarily embrace the concept. My oldest daughter is amazingly talented when it comes to art, and she's always working on something. I want to give her the space and time to develop her skills on a daily basis (so glad we homeschool!), but I also want clear surfaces (especially since her art space doubles as her school desk). Then I look around and see my own stuff strewn everywhere and remember to extend grace and encouragement. (I have a pic that shows more of the clutter, but I prefer to focus on the beautiful artist instead).

more GOOD
Beauty everywhere I look....

the RANDOM
frog friends, golden hour light, dandelion macro
big trees, a fun concert, blue skies and clouds
fiddleheads, front yard blooms, slugs

the FUN
Beverly Cleary, beloved children's author, turned 100 this past week. She's best known for her fun-loving character, Ramona - a series my own girls love. We first read this series shortly after moving to Portland, OR and discovered the stories were set here in Portland because Beverly is from Oregon. It was fun to learn more about our new home through the stories. There is a real Klikitat street, and many tributes around the city to Ms. Cleary (like the statues in Grant Park). We celebrated the day in the most appropriate way - D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read). This was a concept introduced in the stories.

I'm linking up with Good, Random, Fun , Seasons and Life Through the Lens

  2. I love the drop everything and read:):) Please, please, please let your artful daughter make messes - that's how they practice and learn! I used to draw on anything that had a blank space - including the wall paper. Or give her a a corner in the garage where you don't have to see the mess all the time. you may not like it now, but you'll be glad later!

Thanks you so much for being a part of SEASONS with your luscious photos! Love coming here every week - a feast for the eyes:) Enjoy this one!

  3. I've heard the expression that a messy desk is a sign of creativity! To do artwork you need a lot of supplies, so maybe a dedicated art area where your daughter can leave her supplies within reach is a good idea.

Love your snapshot collage -- so colorful!

A good reminder to give grace to others in my house because I make clutter too.

  6. One of my sons is an artist and I used to find papers all over the floor of his bedroom with the coolest drawings. I don't like mess either...but the art...Wow! He didn't even notice the mess...just the creative flow......I tried to think like him when I wanted to clean his room so badly...then I would just back out and close the door. = ) Doors are great!!

  7. My favorite photo of all your amazing ones is the close up dandelion. I've never met a Beverly Cleary book I didn't love! I'm so happy to be sharing them with my grandchildren now.

  8. Thats fun, I did not realize Beverly was from Oregon.

LOL, I am anally organized unless I am creating. My son is an artist who is messy too, so I get him. I think we need to spread when we create.
