Home Improvements

taking a moment to find joy in the little things

{pretty}
Since it can't be all work and no play, we took Saturday to get out in the fresh air. We drove east - far enough to get out of the rain. Our first choice destination ended up being too snowy and there was no where to park. So we headed off to our second choice. The view was beautiful (see below), but it was too windy and cold to stay and walk around (at least we weren't dressed properly for it). So we headed into the town nearby for lunch and just to walk around.

{real}
It was kitchen remodel week here. We actually got it all done pretty quickly - tore it apart on Sunday and by Tuesday evening I had full use of the kitchen again. I've even been able to go through half the cupboards to clean and reorganize (and declutter!)

Not having a kitchen sink is rather inconvenient. Thankful I had this one in the laundry room, but it was a pain for those 2 days. The experience made me grateful and hopefully I won't take my luxurious kitchen for granted. (and by luxurious, I mean the fact that I have running water and electricity!)

{funny}
Normally we do school right off the kitchen, but Monday we took school up to my bedroom while the counters were being installed. We started reading a new book (Love That Dog by Sharon Creech) and had a lot of fun looking up the poems the book referred to. One thing led to another and soon we were writing our own poems. It was one of those perfect homeschool moments - the ones that rarely happen and are difficult to replicate. But it happened and we all basked in the goodness of it. The girls each have an ipod (that they bought with their own money), and so I was letting them google the poems we needed to read. They thought this was the best thing ever. Then I let them write their poems in the notes section on the ipod and text it to me.

{happy}
I am loving my new kitchen...it's so sleek and beautiful. And with the other small renovations we've done recently, it really does feel like a new home.

  1. Happy new kitchen! Sounds like what could have been an inconvenience in moving your schooling location turned into something beautiful.

  7. Your kitchen looks great.
    Enjoyed the views from your drive. I'm curious as to where they were taken. Looks a lot like the Rowena Loops on the Columbia River.
