Your Wardrobe ~ Accessories

Shoes, jewelry, scarves, purses....all those little things add up and quickly create wardrobe clutter.

Limit your colors....If you have chosen a base color for your wardrobe, you will eliminate the need for multiple pairs of shoes. Back when I embraced both black and brown as base colors, I had black and brown sandals, black and brown casual shoes, black and brown dress shoes, black and brown boots, etc. I still have black and brown boots simply because I love them both and wear them both.

Limiting your colors will also help when it comes to other accessories. I prefer silver jewelry over gold jewelry so I don't have any gold. I find myself wearing the same pair of earrings day in and day out - simple silver hoops. I really could get by with just those, but I have kept some others that I wear occasionally.

For me, if I don't wear a piece of jewelry at least once a month, then I don't need it.

Know what you like and know what you wear. I love longer necklaces and have a weak spot for necklaces from Ten Thousand Villages. I have quite a few - more than I should - and I don't wear them everyday, but they are fun, unique and fair trade. Almost all of the jewelry I have chosen to keep has meaning to me and is not just something I picked up at Target.

Limit your storage space. I use a belt hanger to hang my long necklaces and a regular hanger for my scarves. I also have a medium sized jewelry box for everything else.

How many purses does a girl need? The answer for me is one. I have a gray purse and it's the only one I own. It's on the small size so I'm forced to limit what I can carry, but it works for me. Last week the Nester posted about her one handbag. And while we are talking about the Nester, she also posted this great graphic called LIVING WITH LESS last week.

I'll leave you with that. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts or your experience with paring down accessories.

  1. I am enjoying this series so much, Jill. I have minimized my closet to only the things I love. Once I became intentional about clearing out the excess; I realized I had clothes that I love but never wore. It has been freeing in, so many ways. I love how you have everything neatly organized yet while limiting youf storage space. Great post! Thanks for the inspiration.
