A Lego Birthday

This past week we celebrated another birthday in our family. Another simple birthday.

Somehow over the past eight years we have managed to avoid having big birthday parties. And somehow we have managed to create our own fun traditions that our girls love and look forward to.

This year our oldest had the option of having a friend party, but in the end, she chose to celebrate her birthday with one of her buddies by going to the aquarium. Her birthday was on Wednesday, and she really, really wanted all the celebrating to take place on her actual birthday.

This one is our lego lover, so at the beginning of the month I decorated our mantel in her honor. She even helped by making the letters for me.

She loved all the frames and numbers and other creations we came up with.  Personally, I thought they were pretty cool myself.

In addition to planning the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the birthday girl got to design and decorate her own cake. We found these lego candies and candles and put them in her stocking for Christmas.

It was fun. Really, really fun. And really, really simple.

  1. I love the mantel! What a great idea :-)
I keep hoping that my kids will develop a love of Lego - such a terrific toy and I would love to be able to have a Lego party (I am a lover of parties myself and there are so many terrific Lego party ideas!)
I'm so glad that Syd got what she wanted.

    1. Her main gift was a Lord of the Rings Lego set (she got 2 others for Christmas) and when she opened it, she literally leaped across the room and flew into her daddy's arms! It was such a precious moment.
