Last week I shared our curriculum with you, and this week I'm sharing our school room with you.
In keeping with my desire for simplicity and a minimalist living space, this set-up is open and free of distractions. I've seen many school rooms that are full of interesting things, posters, maps, centers, desks and much more...but that's not my style. What some call stimulating, I call suffocating. Since this is my home, and our schooling space is part of the house, we keep it simple.
My favorite part of this room is the world map. We take a global approach to our learning and this map is a great focal point for our homeschool room.
Desks and tables are noticeably missing from our school room. We use our kitchen table for any written work that needs to be done. Some days we do all our school work at the kitchen table and other days we spread out on the floor in this room.
I use these carts to store each girl's books. I hope to use the workbox method this year, but we'll see how successful I am with that.
And this bookshelf holds our violins and some of our books.
Pretty simple.
I like simple!! Too many things on the walls and bright colors and cartoony things I find very distracting. I love the simplicity of your room. I have some work to do in this department!
ReplyDeleteAnd since this space doubles as our guest room, hopefully the lack of bright cartoony things will help you sleep at night when you are here : )
DeleteI love how simple and free of stuff it is. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Jill, I love your world map...where did you get it? I've been looking for one with the muted colors like that. Debbie
ReplyDeleteDebbie - I got it at IKEA. When I first saw it I knew I needed it! I waited about 6 weeks before actually going and buying it because I couldn't get it out of my head. I'm so glad I splurged. It sells for about $150, but that includes the frame you stretch it out on.
