Mama's Cafe

Breakfast used to be my least favorite part of the day. For some reason my girls can't seem to remember what is available for breakfast - even though the offerings have pretty much been the same for years now.

A couple months ago we came up a with a fun solution that has seemed to make our mornings start off on the right foot.

Because they have such different tastes and because I want them to start off the day happy and with enough energy to tackle school, I don't mind being a short-order cook in the morning.

Welcome to Mama's Cafe

While they are waiting for their order, they usually receive an appetizer to munch on (fresh, cut-up fruit).

It should also be noted that we allow guests of all kinds at Mama's cafe. Unless, of course, they can't behave themselves. We have had one naughty dragon that spilled some milk one day.

I cannot tell you how much better our mornings feel. And the best part of all (in my opinion) is that unlike most cafes, this is a "wash your own dishes" cafe!

  1. You reminded me of when our daughter was about six and we made a poster of after school snacks she was welcome to have without assistance. She loved picking and making her own snack. Although, we did have to make a rule that she had to use the same knife for her second batch of toast which we wouldn't have needed if we included your wash your own dishes rule.

  2. What a great idea! I think I may have to steal this from you. What a wonderful memory for your girls when they grow up, too!
