This is my third year to participate in Dressember. What is Dressember?
It's a fashion challenge to wear only dresses during the month of December
and raise awareness and funds for the fight against human trafficking.
Last year and this year, my youngest daughter has joined me in this campaign.
It always starts out fun, but by day 16 or so (right about now), I'm eager to wear pants and weary of bothering people with the message that I'm wearing dresses to fight human trafficking.
But then I look at my own daughters - prime ages for human trafficking (especially in the sex industry) and I'm quickly renewed in my desire and motivation to speak up against this heinous crime. My girls are not at risk simply because of where we live and our socio economic status.
And so I will wear a dress - I will wear it as a uniform to remind me of the millions of unfortunate victims who are powerless against their captors. I will continue to speak up, because if it was my daughter that was a victim, I'd want everyone speaking up on her behalf.
My oldest daughter has zero interest in wearing a dress...she doesn't even own a dress. BUT, she is supportive and lends us her skills and talents. She is our videographer when we make videos for facebook, and she drew these adorable pictures for us to use in our campaign.
If you want to learn more about this movement....please visit Dressember's website.
If you want to support us in our own campaign, here is our fundraising page.
If you want to join us by wearing a dress sometime this month,
we'd love to see a photo of you and we'll donate to Dressember on your behalf!

I've never heard of this, but I love it! I will do some research and see if I can spread the word :)
ReplyDeleteIt's terrific to see you at 'My Corner of the World' this week!
My Corner of the World
The last time I wore a dress was August 2018 when I became a Canadian citizen. Retirement does have some perks. - Margy
