Around the Yard

Whenever the weather is nice and I have some extra time, I've been getting out in the garden area to work. Here's what it looked like when we moved in....

And this is what it looks like now. I've ripped out all the beds with the hopes of starting over. Only one of the beds above was still intact when I lifted it up - the rest were rotting. I want a small, manageable, beautiful garden space.

We managed to pick up some free pallets and we (my husband and youngest daughter mostly) built a new composting system.

It's quite big, but it's already being put to good use. I have the middle bin filled and "resting" for 6 weeks. Then I'll turn it into the bin on the right and let it "cook" for 6 months. And in the meantime, the bin on the left is quickly getting filled with all the yard debris!

We also have a new raspberry bed and all I need to do is transplant the raspberry shoots that are coming up on the other side of the yard. It is so much fun making this place my own!

And now for some pretty pictures - inspired by the leaves in my yard!

  2. Lovely colors on the pretty picture. The little frog posed so nicely. Sounds like the garden space will turn out lovely.

  4. Very pretty. The small violin reminds me to stop and enjoy the music of Autumn...wind in the trees, crunchy leaves, geese flying low and birds migrating.
