Everyday Beauty

So many different circumstances and life happenings have kept us from doing much hiking lately. We used to hike at least once, if not twice, every week, and now we rarely get out. But...that's no excuse for letting my love of photography fade.

This week I was particularly mindful of the beauty within my home....beauty that literally fills my moments and minutes each day. The beauty that can so easily go unnoticed.

I'm a firm believer in making the ordinary special, in finding beauty in the mundane.  I like to use the good dishes every day and create as many beautiful spaces in my home as possible. I've found that my overall mood is deeply affected by my surroundings and having clear, beautiful spaces is life giving to me.

And so this week, I took out my camera and tried to capture a few that brought a smile to my face. These are my happy places.

I love my violin shelf. Three of the four instruments are mine. The top one is my viola - I'm keeping it out in hopes that having it within arm's reach will inspire me to play it more often (so far it's just collecting dust).

And I love this corner with my husband's violin and our mandolin. It brings me much joy and happiness to have a music room in our home.

I even found a little bit of happiness in my soggy garden. It's been so mild here lately that some bulbs have started shooting up through the dirt!

I'm linking up with Good, Random, Fun and Seasons

  2. Wow, a small fortune on instruments! Simplicity and classically oriented, I was too, till I went back to painting. Still love the old masters, but what I paint is definitely more modern. Thank you for highlighting your experiences at your home for All Seasons and enjoying it! Have a very special week!

  3. Please don't stop walking. When I did that I started gaining about 3 pounds a year. Thirty years later...

    1. I don't have any plans to stop walking or running...we just haven't been able to get out and hike much as a family.

  4. I know what you mean about taking photos. I haven't been able to take walks in over a year, bicycling, more, so been taking photos mostly in the front and back yards. Your instruments are beautiful.

    1. When I tend to get out these days, I'm running and I'm not about to run with my camera!

  5. Happy places, indeed. I can see why. Last year, I started making a list of 'simple things' for which I am grateful, on the basis of a post of a fellow blogger, who pointed out that "Giving Thanks is the Other Side of Prayer." So, when I first saw your sink with suds and water, I thought - yes, someone else is grateful for running water!! I am impressed by anyone who can play 1 instrument, much less 2 or 3! I hope one day that viola just jumps into your arms!

    1. I keep a gratitude journal, as well. It's been a paradigm shifter for me. And after reading your comment, I went and played my viola! Then I played it again today - so thanks for the encouragement.
